Profet AI Appoints NYCU Professor Ing-Chao Lin as Advisor, Expanding AI Applications in Semiconductor and IC Design

Profet AI today announced the appointment of Professor Ing-Chao Lin of the Institute of Electronics at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) as an advisor. Professor Lin has extensive research experience spanning electronic design automation (EDA), computer architecture, AI chips, and AI computing. He will advise Profet AI on its continued expansion in the semiconductor sector and work with the team to explore applications of Agentic AI across IC design, engineering knowledge management, and semiconductor R&D workflows.

As AI agents increasingly enter enterprise environments, the focus in the semiconductor industry is shifting from the models themselves to how AI can operate within real engineering workflows. In IC design and R&D environments in particular, engineers work across multiple design tools, analyze large volumes of data, and rely heavily on accumulated experience to make critical decisions. Whether AI can understand this engineering context, connect with existing systems, and assist engineers within clearly defined permissions and control mechanisms is becoming an important consideration for the next stage of adoption.

With Professor Lin joining as an advisor, Profet AI plans to further expand the application of Domain Twin™ across the semiconductor value chain. By combining his expertise in EDA, semiconductor R&D, and AI computing with Profet AI’s experience in manufacturing AI, the collaboration will explore how Domain Twin™ can extend from existing applications in manufacturing, quality, equipment, and new product introduction (NPI) into upstream R&D and IC design workflows.

Professor Lin is currently a Full Professor at the Institute of Electronics, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. His research areas include electronic design automation, particularly design for reliability; memory-centric architecture and systems; and AI chips and AI computing platforms. Prior to joining NYCU, he was a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). He has also served as a visiting professor at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany and the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) in the United States. Before entering academia, he worked as a Staff R&D Engineer at U.S.-based EDA software company Real Intent, Inc., giving him experience spanning both academic research and industrial software development.

Domain Twin™ connects manufacturing data, engineering knowledge, machine learning, and Agentic AI with existing enterprise workflows, enabling organizations to preserve and apply accumulated engineering know-how while maintaining the permissions, review processes, and auditability required for enterprise AI. In semiconductor R&D, these capabilities can also support areas such as engineering information integration, problem analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Going forward, Professor Lin will provide guidance on Profet AI’s technology and industry development from the perspectives of semiconductor R&D, EDA, and AI computing. The collaboration will also explore applications across IC design and engineering R&D workflows, including cross-tool information integration, engineering problem analysis, and the preservation and application of experienced engineers’ design knowledge and expertise.

Jerry Huang, Co-founder and CEO of Profet AI, said: “The next stage of AI in the semiconductor industry will not be limited to the manufacturing floor. From IC design and verification to manufacturing and equipment service, every stage contains a tremendous amount of engineering expertise. Professor Lin’s background spanning EDA, computer architecture, and AI computing is highly relevant to where we are heading. We look forward to exploring together how Domain Twin™ can better understand the context behind engineering work and become a practical part of engineers’ day-to-day workflows.”

Commenting on the collaboration, Professor Ing-Chao Lin said: “IC design is both highly knowledge-intensive and deeply dependent on a wide range of engineering tools. The real value of AI lies not simply in providing answers, but in whether it can connect engineering knowledge, design tools, data, and human judgment. I look forward to working with the Profet AI team to explore how Agentic AI can operate in real engineering environments—helping engineers address increasingly complex tasks while preserving professional judgment and maintaining clear control boundaries, and enabling critical engineering expertise to continue accumulating over time.”

As Domain Twin™ continues to expand across semiconductor applications, Profet AI will bring its experience in process engineering, quality, equipment, and NPI into R&D and IC design workflows. For a knowledge-intensive industry such as semiconductors, the long-term value of AI lies not simply in introducing another tool, but in enabling organizations to preserve engineering expertise that is currently distributed across people, systems, and processes—and keep that knowledge available for continued use and transfer across teams.
